Integrated Energy Plan Technical Advisory Group

The Integrated Energy Plan Technical Advisory Group provides strategic and technical advice to the ACT Government on matters relating to the energy transition. The group was established to assist with the development of the Integrated Energy Plan.

About the group

Integrated Energy Plan Technical Advisory Group (the group) were established in July 2023 to provide advice on matters relating to the development of the Integrated Energy Plan (IEP).

The IEP will be the government’s key policy outlining how the ACT will transform its energy systems to reach net zero emissions from fossil fuel energy by 2045. The IEP is currently being developed following community consultation held in August 2023. The first IEP is anticipated to be released in early 2024.

The group meets monthly and is chaired by City and Environment Directorate (CED) representatives.

Why it’s important

Canberra is set to become the first jurisdiction to be powered entirely by 100% renewable energy. This is a significant change for our city and the government is committed to working with our community to make sure we get it right.

The group is one way that government is engaging directly with stakeholders. The group allows us an opportunity to better understand the challenges and opportunities the transition away from fossil fuel gas presents for ACT homes, businesses, industry and community groups. Ensuring that our stakeholders and the community more broadly have a say on how we electrify our city will help ensure a fair and equitable transition for all Canberrans.
