Electric bikes and scooters
E-bikes and e-scooters allow you to take advantage of the ACT's extensive network of pathways. They’re cheaper to run and more portable than a car or motorbike. Hire e-bikes and e-scooters in some parts of the ACT or buy your own. You’ll reduce emissions while you’re at it.
Easy ways to get around
Canberra is an easy city to get around on foot or by bike or scooter. E-bikes are great to take you a bit further, or to carry things or people. E-scooters are a good option when the walk is a bit too far or you are in a hurry.
Combine these options with public transport for longer trips. Ride or scoot to your nearest bus stop or light rail stop, then continue your journey with public transport! Make sure you understand the carriage of goods requirements on public transport.
Riding an e-bike or e-scooter can add extra convenience, comfort and reliability to your travels. And by swapping out car trips, you’ll help reduce your carbon footprint.
E-bikes and e-scooters
You can buy your own e-bike or e-scooter or hire a shared e-scooters or e-bikes.

Road rules apply to e-bikes and e-scooters. e-bike and e-scooter riders must follow the road rules when using roads, bicycle paths and footpaths.
Please be reminded that not all e-bikes and e-scooters sold in Australian shops or through online retailers can legally be used in public places. E-bikes and e-scooters that are not permitted under the road rules can only be used on private property.
Safety
When using an e-bike or e-scooter you must wear a helmet and stick to speed limits. You must also ride and park in a way that keeps pedestrians and other path or road users safe. Please see the e-scooters and mobility devices page for more information.
