Lighting

You can reduce your energy use by:

  • opening your curtains in the daytime to let natural light shine in (except when you are trying to keep the heat out)
  • turning off lights when you leave the room
  • turning off outdoor lights when they aren’t needed and using motion sensors if you have security lighting
  • minimising the use of halogen downlights
  • avoiding radiant heat lamps as lights in the bathroom.

Choose efficient lighting

Use Light Emitting Diode (LED) bulbs. LEDs can:

  • last for up to 6 years of continuous running time
  • use 20% of the power of halogen bulbs.
