Electrification of Government Gas Assets Program
About the program
The Electrification of Government Gas Assets Program (EoGGA) will see gas asset replacement and electricity network upgrade works.
These works are required for the electrification of over 1,000 gas assets in facilities owned and operated by the ACT Government.
How it works
Over the next 17 years, the program will replace the gas-powered assets used within Government owned and operated buildings.
This will contribute to the reduction of the Government’s greenhouse gas emissions, and the goal of net zero emissions from government operations by 2040.
Three key electrification projects are flagged for implementation in the first year. These are:
- CIT Bruce student residences
- CIT Fyshwick
- Woden Library
A further 17 smaller sites are also planned to be fully electrified in the first year.
A longer-term project pipeline will be available soon.
Who can take part
This is an internal ACT Government program.
Why it’s important
The program will help the ACT to meet legislated net zero emissions targets.
Centralising the coordination of work needed across government to replace gas-powered assets ensures it is prioritised efficiently, supports sector readiness and achieves optimal value for money for the Territory.
The program will:
- deliver reduced greenhouse gas emissions, resulting in better environmental outcomes for the ACT
- lead by example by modelling how change through this government program supports net zero emissions
- enable the ACT Government to optimise operational efficiency by reducing costs and achieving improved economies of scale
- drive local economic development as it provides industry transition support.
The program will create opportunities for industry in:
- Project management
- Technical and specialist design and engineering advice
- Procurement and supply of materials
- All elements of construction
- Waste recycling and disposal
- Independent commissioning agents
