Communities Climate Action Grants Program
The Communities Climate Action Grants Program funds projects that:
- empower local community groups to undertake actions that reduce emissions in the ACT and/or
- prepare communities for the impacts of climate change.
About the program
The Communities Climate Action Grants Program supports the ACT Government’s commitment to working collaboratively with the ACT community to achieve our climate change goals and become a climate ready city.
Grants are awarded to projects that:
- support diverse social groups to take action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
- support diverse social groups to become climate ready by increasing adaptation measures to climate change impacts
- report on community reach, awareness, and subsequent action as a result of the project.
Who can take part
The program is open to applicants in the ACT who:
- are not-for-profit community groups
- are individuals and non-incorporated groups with an incorporated community organisation sponsor (auspicing organisation)
- have an active ABN and public liability insurance.
Cost
It is free to submit an application.
How to apply
Applications for Round 1 are now closed.
Round 1 included a total of $150,000 in funding. The maximum funding for Round One is $30,000 (GST exclusive) per eligible organisation.

Previous funding rounds
In 2025-26, 8 projects received a total of $150,000
- Mount Rogers Primary School P&C received $29,060 to create a climate‑responsive naturescape that improves heat resilience, biodiversity, and outdoor learning while showcasing climate‑adaptive practices to the wider community.
- Australian Multicultural Action Network received $12,500 to deliver culturally tailored workshops and campaigns that support culturally and linguistically diverse communities reduce emissions through practical actions in transport, energy use, and waste.
- Canberra Environment Centre received $13,250 to deliver hands‑on workshops that build skills in home resilience, water‑smart gardening, and sustainable transport for renters, young people, and low‑income households.
- Southern ACT Catchment Group received $25,858 to install shade and increase vegetation to improve climate resilience, usability, and comfort at Cooleman Farm Neighbourhood Park.
- Yeddung Mura (Good Pathways) Aboriginal Corporation received $30,000 to deliver culturally grounded workshops and activities focused on water conservation and drought‑resilient gardening for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- ACT Council of Social Services received $10,000 to present the ACT Community Sector Climate Adaptation Forum, which will strengthen the ACT community sector’s capacity to understand climate risks and plan for future impacts.
- Dual Sport Motorcycle Riders Association ACT received $21,332 to replace petrol‑powered trail maintenance tools with electric alternatives supported by renewable charging systems.
- Rowing ACT received $8,000 to replace petrol generators with solar power systems at regattas, which will cut emissions and embed sustainable practices in sporting events.
