Canberra’s commercial kitchens get a boost to go all electric

28 Jul 2023

Eligible hospitality businesses can now apply to take part in the ACT Government’s Commercial Kitchen Trial.

Transitioning your commercial kitchen from fossil fuel gas to efficient electric is the smart choice for your business. All-electric kitchens are safer and better for the environment.

This Australian-first pilot program will support eligible ACT businesses with a rebate of up to 50% of the total cost to transition their commercial kitchen from fossil fuel gas to efficient electric. Businesses will also receive free expert technical advice.

Equipment eligible for the rebate includes:

  • ovens
  • stove/cooktops
  • char grills
  • griddles and flat plate grills
  • deep fryers
  • other gas equipment used for cooking or heating water.

The ACT is committed to phasing out fossil fuel gas by 2045. An all-electric Canberra will allow us to power our city, homes, businesses, and transport in a cleaner, cheaper and healthier way. The Commercial Kitchen Trial will help the ACT Government understand the unique challenges faced by the hospitality sector as we prepare for a gas free future.

The Commercial Kitchen Trial is open from 1 August 2023 to 30 June 2024 or until fully subscribed. Spaces are limited. Participating businesses will be selected through an Expression of Interest process.

Express your interest to take part in the Commercial Kitchen Trial by filling out the commercial kitchen trial expression of interest form.
