ACT Government provides rebates and free support for Canberrans to reduce energy bills and make their homes more comfortable.

Whether you own your home or are renting, there are easy steps you can take to stay cooler in summer and warmer in winter. Find the right support for you.

Support for concession card holders

Home Energy Support Program – Up to $5,000 in rebates

This program can provide up to $5,000 in rebates to homeowners who hold a Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card or DVA Gold Card. The Program can assist with the costs of installing rooftop solar, ceiling insulation and energy efficient appliances. Eligibility requirements apply. Home Energy Efficiency Program

Whether you’re a homeowner or renter, if you hold a concession card, you may be eligible for this free home energy assessment and draught-proofing service. An experienced technician from St Vincent de Paul can come to your home and identify practical ways to cut your energy and water use and save money on your energy bills. They will also find and seal draughts. This will help keep your home warm in winter and cool in summer. Labour and parts are free of charge. Eligibility requirements apply. Utilities concession – Get $800 off your energy bills

You can have a financial concession paid to your electricity, gas, water or sewage accounts — which means savings for you. You can apply for this concession through your utility provider. Eligibility requirements apply. Find out more about the utilities concession.

Free home energy assessments for all ACT households including renters

If you’re a homeowner or renter and live in the ACT, ask us for a free home energy assessment.

Our expert energy assessor will call you or come to your home to do the assessment. The assessor will suggest simple no or low-cost actions and upgrades you can do to make your home more comfortable, while reducing your energy use and costs. You will be sent a tailored report that includes energy saving tips after the visit.

Depending on the season, renters may also receive a range of free energy saving materials to improve the energy efficiency and comfort of your home.

Zero interest loans for sustainable home upgrades

Eligible ACT households can access zero-interest loans of up to $15,000 to install energy-efficient electric appliances, ceiling insulation and battery storage systems through the Sustainable Household Scheme. It can also help pay for electric cars and EV charging.
