Funding boost for innovation in Canberra’s renewable energy sector

14 Oct 2022

Round 3 of the Renewable Energy Innovation Fund grants program is now open for applications.

The $12 million Renewable Energy Innovation Fund (REIF) was a secondary benefit delivered by contracts with electricity generators for supplying the ACT with renewable electricity.

The REIF is being used to strengthen the ACT’s renewable energy sector, and one way it’s achieving that is through providing grants for new renewable electricity business projects

Businesses, entrepreneurs and researchers are encouraged to apply for grants to fund research and development, upscaling and commercialisation of renewable energy technology.

Previous REIF grants went towards funding a broad range of projects, including an underground large-scale hydrogen storage solution, an Australian-first solar panel testing laboratory, and new products that help to integrate solar and batteries with the electricity grid.

The REIF grants program is contributing to the ACT’s net zero emissions by 2045 target and the interim emissions target of a 50-60 percent reduction on 1990 levels by 2025.

This year, there is $1.5m of grant funding available, with applications invited for $50,000 to $300,000 per project.

Those interested in applying for a grant are invited to attend an information session at the free Sustainable Business Expo, at 10:00am 3 November 2022, Southern Cross Club, Woden. Visit the expo event page for information on the information session and to register.

Applications for the grants close 16 January 2023.
