Launch of the draft ACT Circular Economy Strategy

27 Oct 2022

The circular economy aims to stop waste being produced in the first place and replaces the dominant ‘take-make-dispose’ system with one that is resource efficient by keeping resources in continuous use at their highest possible value.

The draft ACT Circular Economy Strategy (the draft Strategy) was launched for community feedback on Thursday 27 October at Soft Landing, a national social enterprise that operates in Hume. Soft Landing repurposes and recovers unwanted mattresses and ensemble bases.

The draft Strategy outlines a common language and vision to bring the ACT Government, industry, business and the community together to build a circular economy that supports a prosperous and sustainable Canberra. It aims to maximise the value of materials, create jobs and stop waste from being produced in the first place.

The draft Strategy has five themes: food and organics, the built environment, consumer goods, emerging and problematic waste streams as well as creating space to showcase our commitment to the circular economy.
Canberrans are asked to help guide the ACT’s vision for a circular economy by providing feedback on the draft Strategy.

Read the draft ACT Circular Economy Strategy 2022-25 and about how local businesses have embraced the circular economy already.
