Reverse vending machines to be trialled as new container return point option

19 Jan 2022

A new solar-powered ACT Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) reverse vending machine is ready for use at the Erindale Shopping Centre in Wanniassa.

The self-service return point is an easy way for people to take part in the scheme and is part of a six month trial which will inform future rollout of reverse vending machines in the ACT.

It will be open seven days a week with assistance on site between 9am until 5.30pm daily for the first three months to help customers and answer any questions about the machines.

Reverse vending machines only accepts intact, non-crushed containers but is capable of holding up to 8,000 of them at once.

To use the new return point:

  • go to www.actcds.com.au to set-up a Re.Turn It account
  • at the reverse vending machine, scan the QR code, which will recognise your Re.Turn It account and allow you to start redeeming containers
  • follow the sorting instructions – specify either glass or ‘all other material’ types
  • once redeemed, payments will be made online via your Re.Turn It account.

There are now 20 container return points across the ACT helping people to redeem 10 cents back per eligible container, while helping the environment at the same time.

For more information on the ACT Container Deposit Scheme, including the location of collection points and how to create an account, visit www.actcds.com.au.
