Weston Creek welcomes a new Container Deposit Scheme reverse vending machine

10 Feb 2023

A new ACT Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) reverse vending machine has opened at Commons Court in Weston Creek. It gives residents a convenient option for recycling aluminium, glass, and plastic containers while going about their regular shopping.

You can find the Weston Creek reverse vending machine at Commons Court, and it will be open from 7am to 7pm daily.

If you want to use the new machine, you will need a Return-It Express account. You will then receive the 10c refund per container within a few days.

The new Weston Creek reverse vending machine is the 20th return point in the ACT. There are other return points including cash-back depots, Drop and Go Pods and Drop and Go Points.

Residents that use the ACT CDS have already returned 217 million bottles and cans through return points since the scheme launched in 2018. This has resulted in more than $21.7 million in container refunds. It has also contributed to a growing circular economy. Containers are recycled into new products including new bottles and cans.

In December 2022, Canberrans achieved an outstanding new record of 367,745 containers returned in one day. The new Weston Creek reverse vending machine gives Canberrans another easy way to make recycling part of their routine.

The ACT CDS is a partnership between the ACT Government, the scheme coordinator Exchange for Change and the network operator Return-It. For more information on the ACT CDS website.
