Canberra receives international recognition for climate leadership in 2022
04 Dec 2022
In exciting news, Canberra has received a top score on climate action from environmental impact non-profit, CDP.
CDP is a not-for-profit charity that helps companies, cities, states and regions to manage their environmental impacts. The world’s economy looks to CDP as the gold standard of environmental reporting. In 2022, just over 1 in 10 cities scored by CDP (12%) received an A score. Visit the CDP website for more information on A List Cities.
Being recognised as a CDP A List city is an achievement we should all be proud of as we work to achieve a net zero future. But there is still much to be done!
We’re preparing to electrify our city, transition away from the use of fossil fuel gas by 2045, and increase the uptake of zero emissions vehicles.
The recently announced Pathway to Electrification and ACT Zero Emissions Vehicle Strategy show Government’s commitment to our 2045 zero emissions target. Together they set the groundwork for a clear path forward.
There are many ways you can help to tackle climate change and reduce emissions in the ACT. Even small actions can make a big difference.
Here are some ideas to get you started:
- ditch the car and walk, cycle, use an e-scooter, or jump on public transport wherever possible
- make sustainable upgrades to your home. Learn about zero-interest loans and rebates for Australian Pensioner Concession and Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card holders!
- Start your household energy journey and get personalised advice on how to reduce your energy and natural gas use at home.
- reduce your food waste by taking the food waste challenge
- consider an electric vehicle if you can
- talk to our team about how to save on energy and water at home with the Sustainable Home Advice Program
- help make our city green – trees and plants reduce carbon emissions and keep us cool. Find out how you can create a sustainable garden.
