New zero emissions vehicle grants for businesses

23 Mar 2023

ACT businesses and vehicle leasing companies can now apply for a grant to assist in the lease or purchase of a zero emissions light commercial vehicle.

These new grants aim to make commercial zero emissions vehicles available to the Canberra community so they can experience one firsthand.

Depending on eligibility, applicants can apply for:

  • Category A: $50,000 (excl GST) worth of grants is available to co-fund a battery electric light commercial truck to a vehicle hire company.
  • Category B: Up to $100,000 (excl GST) worth of grants is available to co-fund battery electric vans or utility vehicles for ACT businesses and community organisations.

The maximum grant funding amount for each applicant is $50,000 (excl GST) for Category A and $20,000 (excl GST) for Category B.

With more electric utility, van and light truck models coming into the market, businesses who start transitioning their fleets to zero emissions vehicles will see the real-world applications and benefits of making the switch.

With the ACT now powered by 100% renewable electricity, transport is the Territory’s largest source of greenhouse gas emissions. To help speed up the transition to zero emissions vehicles, ACT Government introduced a sales target of 80%-90% by 2030 and included a range of actions in the ACT Zero Emissions Vehicle Strategy 2022-30 [PDF 1.5MB] to help achieve this.
